3K a year JOB SUMMARY The position involves supervising, planning and scheduling crews engaged in roadway maintenance and repairs; interacting with the general public, vendors, and elected officials; serving as a Public Works safety officer; and managing the traffic and safety section of Public Works.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Supervises County road maintenance program, construction and sign crews.
Supervises the clearing of roads of snow, ice and other weather-related obstructions.
Operates as the Public Works Safety Officer.
Directs safety committee, tracks accidents, establishes procedures, and provides training in related safety topics.
Manages the traffic and safety section of Public Works.
Establishes and manage the roadway signing and striping program.
Supervises the Signing crews.
Prepares traffic studies in compliance with regulations.
Responds to complaints regarding signs, speed limits, striping, and program activities.
Schedules, manages, and maintains traffic count data.
Keeps accurate cost records on all work performed, maintains department daily attendance records, schedules crews and equipment.
Plans, schedules and implements construction, maintenance and operation activities designed to provide quality roadway and storm drainage facilities for the County.
Oversees construction and maintenance work to determine acceptability and conformance to standards.
Trains, supervises and disciplines employees performing the duties of maintenance, construction, and repair of roadway and storm drainage facilities.
Supervises the control and use of, and assumes responsibility for all materials, supplies and equipment used in the maintenance, construction and repair of roadways, and storm drainage systems and other department facilities.
Requisitions needed supplies for the department and maintains a variety of records relating to personnel, equipment, supplies, and reports.
Advises Superintendent, Public Works Deputy Director, and other County officials in matters relating to department activities and responds to constituent complaints.
Provides information to various civic, school and public groups and individuals regarding roadway and drainage problems and services.
Supervises the location of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation and informs crew of such locations.
Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by supervising and participating in cleaning and checking equipment and tool after use.
Oversees the safety of assigned workers by instructing individuals in proper safety procedures and monitoring work in progress.
Inspects and assists in the control and use of equipment used in the maintenance and construction to insure that all equipment is in proper working order.
Analyzes annual operating needs and makes recommendations for department budget.
Provides guidance for construction of bridges, culvert installation and road construction.
Provides recommendations regarding heavy equipment purchases and requisitions all supplies and materials needed for effective department operation.
Oversees herbicide spraying operations and providing materials to be used as needed.
Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.
Serves as an emergency responder for County emergencies and all dispatch duties; taking emergency calls from 911 Dispatch for other emergencies.
Plans and inventories tools and equipment to have on hand for emergency work such as but not limited to wind or flooding events.
Routes of equipment during emergencies and large projects such as but not limited to snow removal.
Works with permit section on driveway and utility permits.
Assists in evaluating roads for maintenance treatments and provides recommendations on roadway projects.
Documents activities and report issues to management that cannot be handled on the shed supervisory level.
Assists in performing road ratings and maintaining the database for road condition Assists in recommending roadway projects.
Performs work at assigned location during specified business hours.
Performs related additional duties as required and assigned.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
